Arrival

Through the carved doors, the hills go quiet.

An old pair of carved wooden doors opens onto a brick path. Lamps line the way, and coffee and broad-leafed plants close in on either side. At the end of it the house sits under silver oaks, its tiled roofs low against the trees.

Bhramari is one house, taken whole. There are no other guests and no shared pool, so the place is yours for the length of your stay.

The Film

The House

Built for slow days indoors, too.

Pitched ceilings with dark timber rafters, patterned terracotta floors, and windows big enough to frame the trees. When the monsoon closes in, the living room is where the day happens.

Rooms

Three bedrooms, each looking out at green.

Three air-conditioned bedrooms with large windows. The master bedroom is upstairs with its own balcony, one room opens straight onto the pool, and one sits in a corner of the trees with windows on two sides. Each bathroom is finished in its own colour, and there's an outdoor shower too.

Pool & Gazebo

Your own pool, under the trees.

The pool sits in the courtyard between the wings of the house, so it stays private, and there's an outdoor shower for rinsing off under the trees. At the far end there is a tiled gazebo for long lunches, card games and the evening's first drink. After dark the pool is lit and the lamps along the path come on.

At the Table

Cooked here, when you want it.

Breakfast is included with every stay. Lunch and dinner are made fresh in the house kitchen and ordered ahead. Pick from Malabar stew and neer dosa, Kundapuri chicken, ghee-roast prawns and mutton, biryani, kori rotti, or plain dal and rice when that's all you want.

In the evening there are Mangalorean buns, goli bajji and pakoras with filter coffee.

  • Breakfast included with your stay
  • Lunch and dinner on pre-order
  • Vegetarian and non-vegetarian
  • Evening snacks, filter coffee and fresh juice

The Estate

Coffee, silver oak and birdsong.

The house stands in working coffee country in the Western Ghats, with coffee bushes all around and tall silver oaks overhead. Walk the estate early while the mist is still in the trees, or do nothing at all.

When you want to go out, Manjarabad Fort, the Bisle Ghat viewpoint and the Hemavathi river are all within driving distance of Sakleshpur.
